OUR MISSION
Founded in 2006, the mission of the Young Women of Color HIV/AIDS Coalition (YWCHAC)  is to address HIV and these structural factors impacting the lives of young women of color ages 13-24.    
Since its inception, YWCHAC:
  • has graduated 185 young women of color from its WE SPEAK Summer Advocacy Institute. 
  • has seen over 5,000 young people of color attend its Safer Sex Education Parties.
  • and its partners have tested over 2,200 young people of color at each of their events.
  • has provided updates for 1,300 youth service providers in NYC on topical issues impacting the lives of young women of color.
  •  has distributed over  60,000 condoms at sponsored events.
 OUR VISION
YWCHAC is a coalition for and made up of young women of color, created to foster development of the organizational and advocacy skills necessary to help change the climate and policies in which decisions about them are being made.
OUR VALUES
  • To expand the support network of youth service providers.
  • Foster leadership and team work among all Coalition members.
  • Provide opportunities for mentorship by and for young women.
  • To be patient with young people and ourselves through the process of coalition building.
  • Provide access to information, educational opportunities and tools  for young women of color to:

  • Promote personal and professional growth.
  • Share with others in their networks.
  • Create a collaborative environment for youth-serving organizations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to challenges “isms.”
  • Empower young women to know their rights.
  • Support the learning and development of young women.
  • Practice open and consistent communication.
